EMT - Basic Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician Class is the entry level course for Emergency Medical Services, Fire Fighting and most other Medical Fields. This course teaches the necessary skills for successful completion of the requirements for EMT Basic level certification. 

Successful students will be provided with the necessary in class knowledge to pass the Basic Level State Manipulative skills test and the State written exam for the specific course they have attended.

  1. Current certification as an EMT Basic in Utah.
  2. Certified as an EMT Basic for a minimum of one year.
  3. Current CPR certification.  

Paramedic Overview 

The paramedic program at Utah Valley University is a two semester program for a total of 31 credit hours. Starting Fall 2008, the program will be 34 credit hours and upper level credit as part of the B.S. degree. The first semester is Monday-Friday 0800-1700. The second semester includes all clinical rotation and a capstone portion starting in 2008. Total hours involved are in excess of 1160 hours for both semesters. At the successful completion of the program. the paramedic student can sit for both the Utah State EMS paramedic test and also for the National paramedic test. The program and UVU is Nationally accredited. Prospective students must apply and be accepted to UVU and also must go through the paramedic program pre program selection process which includes a written test, oral interview and practical testing.
